Secure API keys by moving them to server-side code

Stores credentials in secure server-side code instead of in the browser where users can see them

When to use it

You are building an app that calls an external API, like a weather service or payment processor

Why it is worth it

API keys left in frontend code are visible to anyone and can be stolen or misused

The prompt

I am building a weather app that shows temperature and 7-day forecast. The app uses OpenWeather API with key abc123xyz456, currently hardcoded in the React component. Move this key to a server-side Edge Function. The function takes a city name and returns temperature, humidity, wind speed, and forecast for today. The React component calls this function instead of OpenWeather directly. Show that the API key no longer appears when users inspect the browser.

Swap the weather app with your own app and replace OpenWeather with your actual API

What you get

Your API key is stored safely on the server and your app works without exposing credentials in the browser
